Hilmar Eggertsson is an Icelandic and Luxembourgish national with broad international experience in renewable energy, project financing and capital markets. Hilmar has worked extensively on climate, environmental and Arctic related issues, completing climate expeditions to both the Antarctic and the Arctic. Through his origins in Iceland, Hilmar has kept in close contact with all Arctic related matters, joining numerous panels at the Arctic Circle Assembly, amongst others, on Arctic investment opportunities, mainly in logistics infrastructure, energy and natural resources.
His professional experiences are very much linked to the themes of energy and climate. Currently, Hilmar is an Associate at MUFG (Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group), the leading Japanese bank and powerhouse in project financing, focusing on Power, Renewables and Infrastructure projects – everything from offshore wind, LNG, energy-transition projects (battery storage), photovoltaic and hydro power, as well as railway and traditional infrastructure financing. Hilmar also focuses on sustainable finance looking at ESG implementation into financial strategy (and alignment between corporate sustainability goals and financing frameworks). Hilmar has had the privilege of working across Europe – living in Munich, Zurich, London and Paris.
Hilmar has a degree in Economics from Lancaster University and an Executive Education programme in Data Analytics from Imperial Business School. Additionally, Hilmar speak five languages fluently.
