Dr Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is a member of the PRPI – BRICS Engagement Forum Steering Committee.
Dr Pachauri earned a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Economics from North Carolina State University. He was also educated at La Martiniere College in Lucknow and at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Jamalpur, Bihar. He served as Assistant Professor and Visiting Faculty Member in the Department of Economics and Business at NC State. He was a Visiting Professor of Resource Economics at the College of Mineral and Energy Resources, West Virginia University. On his return to India, he was at the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, as Senior Faculty and Director, Consulting and Applied Research Division. He joined The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as Director in 1982 and headed the organisation till 2015. He was also a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Resource Systems Institute and Visiting Research Fellow at the World Bank, Washington. In 2002, Dr.Pachauri was elected Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess information relevant for understanding climate change. He ran the IPCC up until 2015 and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 on behalf of the IPCC. Dr. Pachauri has a vast experience in international affairs and has served in numerous international and Indian bodies in various capacities. His work at IPCC has engaged him in relevant Arctic issues.
